Upon graduating from The College of Art and Technology in Newcastle, Peter Cutts wasted no time in making a name for himself,
designing the sensational High Society chair. The chair, which was first previewed at the 1965 Furniture Show at London's Earl's
Court, received universal acclaim from Industry experts and the press alike. Proving it was no fluke, in 1967 Peter followed up
the success of the High Society chair with the forward thinking, contemporary styled Polaris suite, which was generally considered
the "most revolutionary upholstered suite" in the 1967 Interfurn Furniture Show in London.
In 1969, Peter and his wife Eileen opened the doors of our company, P.E.C. Furniture, for the very first time. Based in Amble, P.E.C.
originally manufactured furniture for retail outlets. However, as brand awareness of our company increased, the opportunity to trade
directly with the general public became apparent. As the popularity of DIY increased, we began to offer a wide range of materials such
as fabrics and trimmings, whilst our skilled and knowledgeable staff at P.E.C. provided expert advice and knowledge when required.
By 1976, the growth of our business demanded new premises and we moved to Amble Industrial Estate where we have been
ever since. From humble beginnings, P.E.C. has evolved into a manufacturer of hand made furniture for the general public as well
as offering recoveries and refurbishment and a comprehensive selection of loose covers, curtains, and pattern books from some
the most renowned and respected fabric designers.
Peter's son Alan, trained by CoSIRA (Council for Small Industries in Rural Areas) in traditional upholstery, won the CoSIRA
Challenge Trophy at the age of 18. P.E.C. remains a family run business as Alan, along with wife Helen and mother Eileen, still
operate our company from the same premises in Amble Industrial Estate.
Today, in addition to a wide range of traditional furniture, soft furnishings, fabrics and sundries, we have revived a design
classic. In a time of retrospective design, Peter Cutts' timeless High Society chair has been brought to life in a choice of
modern, leather coverings. Spearheaded by the re-introduction of the High Society chair, we have also introduced a new leather
recliner, re-establishing the Cutt family as forerunners in innovative, contemporary furniture design.
